On World Osteoporosis Awareness Day this year, our community came together to connect & learn about osteoporosis, and enjoy a delicious calcium-rich cheese platter sponsored by Woombye Cheese Company. Also thank you, IGA Forest Glen! This gathering marked the launch of our “Let’s Chat About Osteoporosis” support and information group!
We’re excited to announce that from now on, we will run this support group for our members once a month. It’s a space where we can share experiences, discuss research-based information, and support one another on the journey to better bone health.
Here are some important facts about osteoporosis:
Osteoporosis weakens bones, making them more brittle and prone to fractures.
It usually develops gradually and often shows no symptoms until a fracture occurs.
1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will experience a fracture in their lifetime.
Only 20% of patients with osteoporotic fractures are ever diagnosed or treated for the disease.
Fun fact: We had so much cheese that our Monday classes got to enjoy some too – all while balancing on a Bosu ball!
We look forward to welcoming more of our members to our future group meetups!
